"What would've happened if I just drop-kicked the Bible?!"

this is why i love my pastor (and his sermons)

i'm pretty sure he meant dropped/kicked and just got flustered but he's a cool guy so maybe not. xP

and just so you don't think my pastor is disgraceful, he was talking about how in the beginning, he had a huge problem with the book of Genesis and it really offended him because all of the great leaders were polygamists and it degraded women and how they believed in primogeniture and he didn't understand how Christianity could condone such cultural beliefs. BUT he read a book by a Jewish commentator (Altman?) on the Old Testament which explained that even though these things were accepted in ancient jewish society, every time there was polygamy it led to disaster and even though primogeniture was the accepted standard, God always blessed the younger son (Issaac vs. Ishmael, Jacob vs. Esu, Joseph, etc.) and how if he hadn't pushed past his being offended at the bible and just "drop-kicked" it, he wouldn't have realized that his being offended at the Bible was just his misinterpretation of it. (And of course he acknowledged the fact that somethings really will offend you but that doesn't mean it's false - if anything it makes it more credible. If something doesn't offend you in any kind of way, it's probably because it's a product of your own culture. Something that is supposed to be from Heaven is going to offend all cultures on different points. ex. most new yorkers don't have a problem with forgiveness but they're extremely offended by the fact that Jesus says that he is the ONLY way to salvation whereas in places like the middle east, it's perfectly reasonable to say that there must be only one way to paradise, but they are appalled at the idea of forgiveness because they have a shame culture and forgiveness would be allowing everyone license to commit all kinds of sin.)

both esther and iris have been telling me that I really changed since freshman year of high school and it's weird because i pretty much felt like the same person (except now i have a man...THE MAN UPSTAIRS!!! best kinda man. never let you down. xP) but i was going through my previous entries and...i'm crazy. seriously retarded. i'm very glad i grew up (a little). xP
